Live App Testing FAQ
This page answers frequently asked questions (FAQ) about Live App Testing (LAT).
About LAT
- Q: What is Live App Testing (LAT)?
- With LAT, you can distribute your apps in the Amazon Appstore to a pre-defined set of testers before you go live. The testers can sample the full suite of Amazon services, including In-App Purchasing (IAP), in the Amazon production environment, so you can make sure your app works as expected. Testers aren't charged for any purchases they make. This allows you to gather feedback, improve quality, increase stability, and optimize the experience before you push your app live for all customers to download.
- Q: Are testers provided by me or by Amazon?
- Live App Testing testers are provided by you.
- Q: Does Live App Testing provide tester management?
- Yes, Live App Testing provides tester management. Easily define the list of testers you want to be able to test your app. You don't need to track who you invited to test your app. Amazon takes care of making sure that only the set of testers you defined are the ones that are testing the app.
- Q: Which devices does Live App Testing support?
- Live App Testing supports Amazon Fire devices.
- Q: Which Amazon APIs can I test with Live App Testing?
- You can test your app with all Amazon APIs, including IAP. See the full list of Amazon APIs.
- Q: Can I test my iOS apps with Live App Testing?
- No. Live App Testing supports only Amazon devices and Amazon APIs.
- Q: Which marketplaces does Live App Testing support?
- You can publish your test to all marketplaces.
- Q: Is my test confidential?
- No. Though test apps are only distributed to the testers you designate, Amazon does not impose confidentiality obligations on testers.
- Q: How much does Live App Testing cost?
- Live App Testing is free of charge.
- Q: Is there a guide on how to create a test?
- Yes, see Get Started with Live App Testing.
Working with LAT
- Q: Can I promote my LAT app to the upcoming version?
- Yes. You can promote your LAT app to the upcoming version, where you can make final adjustments to your app's metadata before submitting to live.
- Q: Is there a limit to the number of testers that can participate in a test?
- Yes. The maximum number of testers that can test your app is 1,500.
- Q: Can any customer see the Live App Testing version of my app?
- No. General customers can't browse or view your test app. Only testers that receive the tester invitation link can download and install your test app.
- Q: Can testers submit feedback to me through the Live App Testing service?
- No, testers must submit their feedback to you directly through a channel of your choosing, such as email or an internal ticket system.
- Q: Why do my testers not see the Live App Testing app in their Cloud tab?
-
- The tester might need to resync their account to pull in the new version. You can do this through Settings (Settings > My Account > Sync Amazon Content).
- The tester must verify they have accepted the e-mail invitation and received a confirmation of purchase.
- The tester must make sure that they accepted the Live App Testing invitation with the Amazon account they are using for testing.
- The tester might not have a compatible device. (This is not a compatibility issue with Live App Testing.)
- Q: My app uses the Pending Purchases feature in Amazon Kids. Can I use Live App Testing to test my app in a child profile?
- Yes, you can use Live App Testing with a child profile to test Pending Purchases. For instructions, see Set up a live integration test in the Test Pending Purchases documentation.
Multiple binary types
- Q: If I'm testing both an APK and a VPKG, how do I know which tester in a tester group is assigned to which binary type?
- To identify the tester group for corresponding binary type, consider naming the tester group to correlate to a single binary type. For example, you can name the tester group "Vega OS Tester Group 1" for testers testing the VPKG version of your app, and name another tester group "Fire OS Tester Group 2" for testers testing the APK version of your app.
- Q: If I have only one binary type in a live app test, can I use the "promote to upcoming" option?
- Yes. The promote to upcoming option is available if the live app test has only one binary type, for example only an APK or only a VPKG. The option is disabled only if the live app test has multiple binary types.
- Q: What happens if I end the live app test when it has both APK and VPKG?
- Ending the test ends the live app test for both APK and VPKG. Testers will no longer have access to the test for either binary type.
Multiple LAT tracks
- Q: What are the advantages of creating multiple LAT tests for an individual app?
- Using multiple LAT tracks has the following features and advantages:
- Enhances your testing productivity with LAT because you can test builds in parallel without needing to wait for another LAT test to end.
- Helps you test up to five different versions of your app in parallel tracks, without the tests impacting each other.
- Lets you independently add or remove testers within each LAT test.
- Lets you independently purchase in-app items within each LAT test.
- Provides you with the option to choose which LAT app to promote to the live release track.
- Q: How does tester entitlement for in-app items work with multiple LAT tracks?
- Tester entitlement is handled separately for each LAT track. If you add a tester to two different LAT tracks and they purchase or renew an in-app item on one LAT track, it doesn't impact their purchase status on the other LAT track. In this way, you can focus on different in-app purchase scenarios in each LAT test independently.
- Q: How do I identify different LAT tests while testing on a device?
- Appstore provides the identifiers, "TEST 1" through "TEST 5" on the app icon banner and the LAT dashboard, which help you identify the LAT version of your app that you are testing. If a tester uses the same device for different LAT tests, they must uninstall the version of the LAT app they are currently testing before they can install a different LAT version of the app.
- Q: If I have multiple LAT tests for an app and I end one, what happens to my other active tests?
- Ending a specific LAT test doesn't impact other parallel tests. Test status and in-app purchases are independent of other LAT tests.
- Q: How do I identify different in-app item purchases across LAT tests while testing on a device?
- If you store the in-app purchase SKU at the email ID level instead of honoring In-App Purchasing (IAP) receipt metadata, your IAP items will be shared across LAT, DevTest, and your live app. Appstore recommends that you store purchase information for IAP items at the user ID level to avoid this conflict.
