Configure Permissions to Send Events

To send events to the Alexa event gateway, you must configure the Send Alexa Events permission for your smart home add-on in the Alexa developer console. Complete the steps to enable this permission.

Enable permission in the developer console

To indicate that your smart home add-on sends proactive events and asynchronous responses to directives, complete the following steps.

To enable permission to send Alexa events in the developer console

  1. Sign in to the Alexa developer console.
  2. On the Skills tab, under SKILL NAME, find your add-on.
  3. Under ACTIONS, expand the dropdown list in your add-on's row, and then choose Edit.
  4. In the left pane, select PERMISSIONS.
  5. To enable permission to send Alexa events, toggle Send Alexa Events.
  6. Under Alexa Skill Messaging, to view the Alexa Client Id and Alexa Client Secret, choose SHOW.
  7. Copy the Alexa Client Id and Alexa Client Secret values.
  8. In a convenient place, such as Notepad on Windows or TextEdit on Mac, paste the Alexa Client Id and Alexa Client Secret values.
You use these values to request an access token for a customer. For details, see Request Access to the Alexa Event Gateway.
